Frequently Asked Questions
Why did you set up Windermere Beds?
We set up Windermere beds following our own experience of purchasing beds from a number of sources.
- We believed that we could offer good quality products at a more reasonable price than many other suppliers - offering a more responsive and crucially, a more local, service to you the customer.
- From our own experience we want to offer flexible delivery - appreciating the frustration of having to take time off work during the week or pay additional charges for evening or weekend delivery.
- Many suppliers transport beds huge distances. We wanted to offer a local and more environmentally friendly option by using manufacturers as close as possible to this area and restricting our services primarily to Cumbria.
- There appeared a lack of clarity in the industry as to whether hotels and bed and breakfasts HAD to buy contract grade (Ignition Source 5) mattresses. We wanted to clarify this and ensure people were not being mis-informed. Although many establishments still choose to buy this level of fire retardant mattress for their own peace of mind, it is not a requirement.
Do you provide beds to businesses only?
No. We supply beds for the ‘contract’ market (hotels, bed and breakfast etc) as well as the domestic market. We offer a vast range of beds (sizes, drawer combinations etc) and if you don’t see exactly what you want on our website, please call us on 015394 48540.
Is there a minimum order?
No. There is no minimum order.
What does the delivery charge include?
We only make one delivery charge per order/per address (regardless of number of items). The delivery charge includes the delivery of your goods to the specified address and to your chosen room. Please ensure that the items you purchase will fit, taking account of any tight corners, restricted doors etc. If there are any access issues to your address, you must inform us in advance so that we can ensure a suitable sized vehicle is used.
I want a different drawer combination to that offered on the website.
No problem. On the website we offer 2 drawer combination on double, kingsize and super king beds, one drawer on either side of the base of the bed as standard. However other combinations are available. If you require any of the following please call us on 015394 48540.
- A single with one or two drawers, both on right, both on left or one at bottom of bed
- A double, king or super king size base with a different two drawer combination e.g. two drawers both on one side of bed
- A double, king or super king size base with four drawers.
Do you deliver in the evenings?
Yes. For no additional charge we will deliver outside normal working hours.
Do you deliver at weekends?
As an exception and if a mutually convenient date can be identified, we will be happy to do this for no extra charge. Please contact us to discuss.
You state that you’re a local supplier - how far do you deliver?
We guarantee to take orders and deliver to any location within the county of Cumbria (according to post-code and accessibility). We may also deliver to adjoining counties, however we would ask you to contact us first on 015394 48540 before placing an order.
What do the terms 'Ignition Source 5' and 'Contract Bed' mean?
Ignition Source 5 (IS5) is a recognised industry standard for fire retardant upholstery, fillings etc. conforming to BS 7176:1995 and BS 5852 Section 4. It involves placing a 65mm wooden crib structure on the material to be tested - a small piece of lint soaked in alcohol is then placed inside and lit. After a determined period of time, the material should show no evidence of continued charring or burning.
A Contract Bed is typically a bed or mattress manufactured using fabrics and fillings of IS5 or higher.
It is a recommendation that hotels and bed and breakfasts should consider buying mattresses to this level, but it is NOT compulsory.
Lesser IS tests are typically used for lower risk locations and institutions, and there are even more stringent tests ideally suited for places like prisons or off-shore oil rigs.
